What a reading is, and is not
- It is a snapshot. Twelve instruments read at one moment. A pair that reads CLEAR now can read GALE in an hour, and the office will say so when it re-reads.
- It is arithmetic, not opinion. The reading starts at 5.0 and every instrument that registers moves it by a published weight. Add them up yourself — the numbers are on the card.
- It is not advice. A high reading means the instruments found little wrong, not that a pair is a good trade. Those are different claims and we only make the first.
- Blind instruments stay blind. When a source omits a field, that instrument does not fire and is listed as unread. It is never scored as zero.
